The East Hampton Library is more
than a building. It is filled with a wonderful collection of books,
CD-ROM's, videos, magazines and Internet computers. It is the home
of a charming children's collection, with a special reading room
for parents to share the experience with their young family members.
And it contains a vast archive of rare documents, books maps, logs,
letters and lectures going back more than 350 years, which help
tell the history of East Hampton.
Professional and amateur historians
travel from all over the world to visit the Long
Island Collection of the Library. Here you can explore over
three centuries of local history, trace your family roots or study
in depth what scholars have discovered about the origins of East
Hampton.
The East Hampton Library is the friendliest
place in town to spend some quiet time, getting help from our staff,
reading or researching in our stacks, surfing the net or just relaxing
in our sun-drenched cloistered gardens.
It is through the generosity of private
citizens, businesses and local foundations that the Library continues
to remain a resource for all. Tracing its roots to 1753, the Library
as presently organized has more than 100 years of continuous service
to the community. From your gift, you will have that personal sense
of satisfaction knowing that you have helped the Library carry forward
its mission - the mission to inform, inspire, entertain and
challenge all who enter its doors.
