East Hampton Library resident cardholders
may place a requests for items in other libraries through interlibrary
loan. Interlibrary loan is
the lending of materials between libraries
in Suffolk or other locations.
Any book which has been published
may be requested. It is costly and time-consuming, however, to request
the loan of books that are unlikely to be circulated by any library.
These include:
- Rare or valuable material.
- Bulky or fragile items that are
difficult or expensive to ship.
- Material in high demand, such
as best sellers or new books.
- Material with local circulation
restrictions, such as reference books and Civil Service or similar
test manuals
- Unique material that would be
difficult or impossible to replace such as genealogical records.
Interlibrary loan requests may be
made directly from the county
catalog. Please see the Reference Librarian for help with finding
and placing requests for specific items, or if you are experiencing
difficulties.
The East Hampton Library cardholder
is responsible for:
- Observing the due date and renewal
rules set by the lending library.
- Any charges set by the lending
library for damaged or lost materials.
- Overdue item charges.
Please note: We have no way
to obtain a delivery date for the requested materials. It can take
anywhere from two days to six months or more.
